My own swimming journey started when I was 6, afraid to leave the side of the ‘little’ pool it took a stern lady swimming instructor and the use of a broom handle to get me moving forward. Since then I’ve never looked back, first as a swimmer for a local club and county and then, after a brief hiatus in my teen years, for maintaining health and fitness. 10 years ago triathlon and open water swimming gave me a new focus and I have since competed in many triathlons from sprint to Ironman distance as well as several long distance open water swims e.g. Thames Marathon, Windermere One-Way.
The majority of my lessons (pre-COVID-19) are taught with me in the water to allow easy demonstrations and to provide close support and reassurance for nervous swimmers. I firmly believe that it is important to focus on being at ease in the water before trying to rush into swimming per se; anxiety and tension are the enemies of relaxed confident swimming so it’s critical that this stage isn’t skipped, especially for those learners that have had a negative or traumatic water experience in their past. For more accomplished swimmers looking to refine technique, then I will often observe from pool-side, or even from underwater, as this really helps identify areas of the stroke requiring specific focus. As an experienced open-water swimmer and qualified open water coach (Swim England) I’m also able to support those swimmers looking to transition out of the pool into open water; whether it be simply for the experience or for a specific event. My professional background is scientific, so I am also very interested in exercise physiology and have a lot of experience in the application of training techniques to goal orientated swimming.
Ultimately I’m most interested in helping people achieve their swimming goals, whether it’s simply being more comfortable in the water with children/grandchildren, being able to swim a length, learning a new stroke, or competing in a triathlon / open water swim event; this is your swimming journey and we are here to help you achieve that.
Excellent swimming trainer. Andy is very patient and a wonderful teacher. My son is already more confident and always looks forward to his lessons. Highly recommend Andy , he’s a great trainer.
I was less than a beginner when I started my lessons. I had attempted learning on several occasions and at some point concluded it wasn’t for me. I decided to give it another try with Andy. I can say he proved me wrong that swimming wasn’t for me. He was also very patient cuz I know how frustrating it can be teaching someone .
Thank you . I don’t have to walk in the pool any more.
I had the pleasure of Andy as my swimming instructor. Andy is a very competent and devoted swimming instructor. I was able to tell him my swimming goals and he definitely helped me achieve them. He was very patient and encouraging. Because of him I now have a love of swimming. I am able to do some swimming strokes and feel more confident in the water. Anyone would be lucky to have Andy as a swimming instructor. He is fantastic!!

Andy has been amazing with my little boy. He was understanding with the fact my little boy was scared of the water. Andy used things my little boy liked, i.e dinosaurs to help my little one learn how to swim. Andy has helped him go from the little scared boy to the confident swimmer he is today. The journey has been amazing!! Couldn’t recommend anyone better.
Andy is an excellent swimming instructor, he is very patient and tries many techniques and drills to teach you specific skills. He also tells you what you need to do in order to improve when practising with yourself.
