Emily – Swimming Teacher – Blackburn

Hi, my name is Emily.

I have a strong background of swimming. I was born in Australia where my mum started my swimming lessons with me as soon as she could, before I can even remember. I learnt Front crawl, butterfly and backstroke whilst there. When I was six, I moved to England where my swimming further progressed, where I learnt breaststroke. I also completed the rest of the swimming stages, achieving any badge I possibly could. By the time I was eight I was swimming for Horwich swimming club were learnt skills such as start dives, turns and racing technique. This led me to competing in many swimming galas, which further got me scouted for Bolton Metro Swimming Squad at the age of eleven. This included multiple hours of training a week (roughly 12-14 hours) held at all hours of the day. This helped me by improving my stamina and speed through many hours of practice allowing me to improve my personal best times at competitions. My strength and love for swimming further led me to my favourite sport, water polo which was introduced to me in year six of primary school. This required me to use my speed and stamina I gained through many years of swimming to win the ball for the team and keep myself vertical in water by treading water (eggbeater leg kick) for the duration of the 40-minute game. I played at multiple clubs and squads including the city of greater Manchester, as well as the school team. Further leading me to compete for the Northwest regional team multiple times and progressing to the England academy. I also competed for many years of national age group titles and national school water polo titles.

As I got older, my love for being in the water and helping people inspired me to become lifeguard which also opened a door to qualifying as a swim instructor. This became such a rewarding role as I can pass on my knowledge of technique and improvements that I have gained from my experience of swimming and experience from working with many clients of all ages and abilities. Which will make swimming more efficient and easier.
