Neil – Senior Swimming Teacher – Sheffield

Hi I’m Neil,

I started swimming when I was 3 years old when my mum and dad used to take me to the municipal baths at Normanton. Apparently i was always swimming underwater and could swim better underneath the water than on the surface (sometimes a good thing but not always)

During my childhood my father used to take my brother and I to different pools in the yorkshire area including Dewsbury,Pontefract and Normanton, many of which have now been replaced with new facilities(no 10ft deep ends or diving boards now)

I was a lifeguard for many years for wakefield metropolitan district council (WMDC) from 1989-1997 and 2001-2017.

In the years between i was a prisoner custody officer for Group 4 security working at courthouses in Peterlee,Bradford and Wakefield.

I started my teaching journey in 2008 when my youngest of 3 children started full time education.

I originally started my teaching journey with WMDC in 2008 teaching Adults and 1-2-1 and 1-2-2 lessons at castleford pool and group lessons at Normanton.

In 2017 the pool at Castleford closed and i started teaching permanently.

My main philosophy on teaching is that each individual has different needs, expectations and past experiences and this is where having 1-2-1 or 1-2-2 teaching/coaching is highly advantageous.

I aim to make all my lessons fun, enjoyable and instructive for all my swimmers to give the best experience  whether they are 3,33 or 63.

Learn to swim, a skill for life that could save a life.
